Book Buddies

WHAT WILL I BE DOING AS A BOOK BUDDY?

Book Buddies work one hour per week, for seven weeks. They are paired with a second or third grade child, and together with other pairs of Book Buddies, they listen to their Buddy read aloud and play reading games. At the Monday evening session only, Book Buddies can also read aloud to a therapy dog.

It is very important for Book Buddies to be reliable; if a volunteer doesn't show up at a session, their Buddy will have no one to read to!

WHO IS ELIGIBLE TO BE A BOOK BUDDY?

Students going into 6th - 9th grade in Fall 2010;

• who have a valid Elmhurst Public Library card
• who can commit to working at least five weeks of the seven-week program
• who are applying because they want to, not because their parents are making them do it
• who are responsible and trustworthy
